The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a roster full of players, and we want to talk about them all. One Foot Down’s player profile series will take a look at every single one of them, and hopefully we all learn a little bit more about these guys, and Notre Dame’s chances for the upcoming 2020 season.
#39 Jonathan Doerer, Kicker
This Charlotte, North Carolina native may have picked up where record-breaker Justin Yoon left off, but he sure smashed any skepticism to pieces. This past season, he snatched some firsts of his own and scored on all 57 of his PAT attempts. He also ended his junior year with 108 points, the most in one season by any kicker in school history. Doerer was a standout against the University of Southern California Trojans, and capitalized on field goal attempts at 45, 52 and 43 yards.
I would neither want to be on the wrong side of a kick from a horse nor from Doerer. Epic hair has become a theme of its own on these profiles, and we’re going with a copper-colored one because of Doerer’s red locks.
Irish fans can count on Doerer to keep a good thing going. He has found his flow as a starter and proven his value to the team. Whether it were the pressure of filling big shoes, or delivering in a rivalry game, Doerer came through for his team. Now that he has established a rhythm as a starting kicker, it will be more fitting in the coming season to compare him to Yoon.
