As you (hopefully) know, I’ve been supporting the Bread of Life food drive (BOLD) for many years now. I’d like to start out by saying thank you for all your past support of the Bread of Life food drive over the past several years. Since it started in 1992, BOLD has gathered cans and boxes of food to help our nation’s needy (starting out in the Notre Dame Club of Staten Island) — people disadvantaged by age, health, injury, job circumstances, domestic abuse, abandonment or other personal crises. If you’re not familiar with BOLD, check out the video produced on its 25th anniversary. Watch the video here:
COVID-19 makes it impossible to collect food for BOLD the way it’s always been done. What’s even worse is that the ripple effects of COVID-19 are producing such devastating consequences for so many people that food pantries are being overwhelmed with pleas for help. Almost all of us know someone or some family that’s been affected.
Virus or not, it’s important that this year’s food drive take place. Instead of collecting and donating the usual amount of food, we’re asking our relatives and friends to help us raise cash donations.
- Every dollar that’s contributed will be used to help organizations in your local community serving the needy, including Project Hospitality, the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities and others.
- Recipient organizations will receive their share of funds in the form of food gift cards. Amounts will be proportional to the amount of food each organization would’ve received from BOLD this year.
We’re collecting money now through May 31. Will you help us?
- Make a donation online (Click here) or send a check made payable to the “Notre Dame Club of Staten Island” c/o Joe Delaney, 64 Bloomingdale Rd., Staten Island, NY 10309. (If you would like your donation to help your local community, please note that on your check. Otherwise it will be used to help the community in Staten Island.) The Notre Dame Club of Staten Island is a tax-exempt organization and your donation may be tax deductible.

Please understand that we’ve never solicited money for BOLD. This year, the circumstances are exceptional and the need for help is urgent. Please join us if you can, and please be as generous as you can be.
Please consider forwarding this appeal to others who might be in a position to help. You can follow our progress by visiting the online fundraising page.
Thank you!
