Mike Brey and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball team got some great news on Saturday when Trey Wertz announced his decision to transfer to South Bend from the Santa Clara Broncos.

— Trey Wertz (@_TDub3) April 11, 2020
Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, the 6’5” 180 pound guard averaged 11.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 40 percent (50-of-125) from three point land as during his two years at Santa Clara.
Wertz will have to sit out the 2020-2021 season according to NCAA transfer rules — unless he files, and wins, an appeal to the NCAA for immediate eligibility. Wertz will have two years of eligibility remaining whenever that clock starts to tick.
Notre Dame has done quite well with transfers over the years, and also has Cormac Ryan from the Stanford Cardinal ready to contribute in the 2020-2021 season with 3 years of eligibility.
Mike Brey ain’t done yet.
