Notre Dame Football: UNLV to play Irish in South Bend in 2022

That’s a fancy mustache

The UNLV Rebels decided that the best way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day was to announce a game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2022.

The game will be played on October 22, and the Rebels will take home a $1.35 million dollar paycheck for their troubles. Not only will this be the first ever meeting between the two schools, it will be the first time UNLV will have ever played in the state of Indiana.

The 2022 schedule for the Irish is close to completion. This addition of UNLV puts Notre Dame at 11 football games on the schedule for the season. The Irish added the California Golden Bears to the list just a short while ago.

The Irish are also scheduled to play the Ohio State Buckeyes to open that year in Columbus, as well as welcoming the Clemson Tigers back to South Bend. With the USC Trojans and Stanford Cardinal on there annually, that 12th game will most likely go to a non-traditional power — although Notre Dame only has eight Power 5 teams on that schedule, so we should expect another Power 5 school somewhere out there.

Be prepared for some Shamrock Series nonsense (although not the Rebels even though that would be hilarious if Notre Dame did play UNLV in Las Vegas’s new stadium as the home team).
