The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are ready to begin their ACC Tournament quest tonight against the Boston College Eagles. The Irish almost certainly need to win the ACC Tourney to get a spot in the NCAA Tournament, so the stakes are extremely high for this team.
The Irish are in this position because of a large handful of close losses in ACC play. Seven of Notre Dame’s ten ACC losses have been by 5 points or fewer. This is a team that could be vastly underrated right now because of their resume, but their play on the court tells a little different tale.

THE QUICK THOUGHT
I’m as guilty as anyone for looking at Notre Dame’s close losses as a major reason to have hope in the ACC Tournament. The problem is that in most of those losses, the Irish simply ran out of gas because of their extremely short bench. In tournament format, this problem can be exacerbated and exploited. It’s all really going to come down to how well the Irish shoot the three — because they are going to shoot it A LOT.
