Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Tyler Buchner, Irish QB commit, is transferring to a different high school

High school quarterback on the move

USA Today

According to @Daygofootball a Twitter account that covers San Diego high school football, Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback commit, Tyler Buchner is transferring schools for his senior year.

Buchner had been attending The Bishops School, but Helix plays against much tougher competition. If you’re wondering if there is any penalty against Tyler for this move, the answer is, “no.” Helix is a charter school and the CIF rules allow such a move without penalty.

Why would Buchner make such a move with a solid commitment to Notre Dame and plans to enroll early to compete for the starting job? It’s probably all about preparation. I don’t believe this is an ego thing where he’s trying to show the recruiting services that he is a legit 5-Star player. Buchner will be better prepared to compete for the starting job by playing against better competition. Freshman year has enough shock value to it, going from The Bishops to ND was going to be a little rough.

Perhaps an even bigger factor in this decision is that Buchner’s offensive coordinator at The Bishops, Danny Mitchell, is taking a job at Torrey Pines.

At the time of publishing, Tyler and his family have not yet confirmed this move publicly.

Helix Charter is the former high school of all-time Irish villain/nemesis Reggie Bush.
