The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in the mix with a large handful of some of the best offensive linemen in the country for the 2021 recruiting cycle. One of their most coveted prospects is Rocco Spindler from Clarkston, Michigan. Spindler, a 4-star offensive lineman with offers from all over the country, has the Irish in his top group of schools — and Notre Dame fans are pulling hard for his commitment.
He’s making that even more intense with tweets like this:
Ran into the lendgendary head coach, Lou Holtz in Mexico the other day! He impacted my life with his truly inspiring messages he gave about life. He also recruited my father heavily back in 86-87, this is one of those times we say “like father, like son” Could this be a sign? ☘️ pic.twitter.com/1whZFIJOTa

Now... we should all know better than to read too much into any social media post from a high school recruit. It’s safe to say that fans should really only take these things at face value — but this is a really solid tweet from Spindler. It has that perfect mix of hinting at the love to Notre Dame, along with pics of him with an Irish legend, Lou Holtz.
That’s the kind of thing that gets Notre Dame fans really excited.
Rocco’s father, Marc, was recruited by Holtz in the late 80s — but the elder Spindler eventually chose the Pittsburgh Panthers as his college destination. Marc was from Pennsylvania and that was back when Pitt football was still a solid program. He was a All-American defensive lineman in high school, and he played 10 seasons in the NFL ( 7 of those seasons were with the Detroit Lions in two different stints from 1990-1994 and 1998-1999).
Notre Dame is battling the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Michigan State Spartans for his services, and the Irish appear to be in good shape right now.
Notre Dame already has Blake Fisher and Greg Crippen in the fold, and would love to add Spindler to this class. They’re also recruiting Spindler’s high school teammate 4-Star OL Garrett Dellinger along with 4-Star OL Langdon Tengwall (Maryland) and 5-Star OL Nolan Ricci (Pennsylvania).
This could be a HUGE cycle for the Irish in the trenches, and Spindler is definitely a player that can help make it an elite haul.
