Notre Dame Football: Kickoff time for Irish VS Navy in Ireland is set

How do you feel about night games?

The kickoff schedule for the 2020 Notre Dame Fighting Irish football season is starting to come together. On Tuesday, Notre Dame and the Navy Midshipmen announced that their game in Dublin, Ireland will be a 2:00 PM EST game (7:00 PM local).

I’m not sure if we should actually count this as a real night game for Notre Dame — although it will be as real as it gets for the Irish and Middies on August, 29.

This game will be broadcasted on ESPN, and it was already announced months ago that ESPN’s College Gameday will be on hand that week to highlight the game to start the season.

Notre Dame already has three night games scheduled with the Wisconsin Badgers, Stanford Cardinal, and Clemson Tigers all set for prime time action on NBC. Without a doubt, Notre Dame will have at least two more prime time games on the road — but those won’t be announced until closer to the game week (because of TV rights deals and other such things).

This will be the third trip to Dublin for Notre Dame football. All three times, the Irish played Navy (1996 & 2012). Unlike the 2012 game that was also the season-opener for Notre Dame, they will get a week off after playing before they resume the season against the Arkansas Razorbacks in South Bend. In 2012, Notre Dame played the Purdue Boilermakers in a close game one week after the trip to Ireland and there were certainly some jet lag issues.
