According to multiple reports with the first one being Irish Illustrated (don’t taze me Prister), Notre Dame Fighting Irish wide receiver Jay Brunelle could be out for spring with a shoulder injury. The injury required surgery, and although there might be a chance he works out some, shoulder surgeries have been known to take 6-8 months to fully heal. An Irish Sports Daily report stated a more definite “out for spring” earlier this afternoon.

We don’t have to get too deep into the weeds with this one. The early enrollee was not expected to crack the two deep at wide receiver this year, and the Irish still have 11 other bodies at the position (10 for this spring).

However... don’t be so quick to overlook this in its entirety, even if he was destined to redshirt in 2020. One of the really nice things about a 3-Star developmental prospect enrolling early is that Notre Dame can start the development right away in the hopes that the player will be able to compete for a major role in the fall of their sophomore year. This sets that timetable back quite a bit.
