Notre Dame Football: Irish remain #2 in both AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll for 5th week in a row

The regular season has come to an end for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and it was perfect. At 10-0 overall and 9-0 in ACC play, the Irish have proved themselves to be one of the best teams in the country, and find themselves ranked #2 for the 5th week in a row by both the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll.

It was a slow path, but the Irish gradually moved up the rankings as their wins stacked up during the season. It was the win over then #1 Clemson just a month ago that first saw the Irish get to #2, and they’ve done nothing to relinquish that ranking since.

Notre Dame has gained new respect throughout the college football world, and the North Carolina Tar Heels can thank the Irish for their current ranking because of a 14 point loss. UNC moved up AFTER they lost to the Irish — that’s the respect I’m talking about.

Notre Dame will next play on December 19 for the ACC Championship against Clemson. It will be a rematch of what was the greatest college football game played this season — any calls for the BYU/Coastal Carolina game as a better game are just ridiculous.
