Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Irish flip LSU safety commit Khari Gee

Brian Kelly said the Notre Dame Fighting Irish weren’t done yet during a Wednesday Signing Day press conference — and he meant it. On Friday, 3-Star Safety Khari Gee flipped from his commitment to the LSU Tigers and signed with Notre Dame.

The 6’3” 193 pound athlete from Atlanta, Georgia, also held offers from the Clemson Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines and others. While 247 and the 247 Composite lists gee as a 3-Star, Rivals likes him a little better with a 4-Star ranking.

Because of Gee’s size and hometown, the natural comparison by some people is that of Kyle Hamilton. Personally, I see Gee as more of a Jalen Elliott type — but with a little more pop.

And speaking of that “pop” Gee could very well develop into a ROVER at Notre Dame as well. Last spring, Ryan Davis, defensive backs coach for Woodford Academy, told BGI’s Mike Singer that Gee can be very versatile at the next level:

“A lot of people have told me, coaches in general, that he is probably one of the biggest safeties in the state. That’s why he picked up so fast. I think he’s around 193 pounds at 6-foot-3. Potentially, he could be a 215-220 safety or he could be a 225 nickel/outside backer. It all depends what they want to use him as. But he’s athletic enough to do it all.”

“He’s whatever you want him to be. If you want to stay slim and be a safety, he can do that. If you want to put the pounds on and be a rover or outside linebacker, he can do that. He has the frame, and he hasn’t scratched the surface of how big he can be. The sky is the limit for that kid.”

Gee is the 26th commitment in the 2021 class and the 25th to sign. Ironically enough, Notre Dame still has yet to receive an NLI from running back Logan Diggs — who is also considering LSU.
