The 47-40 win the Notre Dame Fighting Irish picked up over the #1 ranked Clemson Tigers will go down as one of the best this college football season will see — as well as one of the best in ND history.
It was also good enough for the Irish to catapult from #4 in both the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll, to #2 this week.
The Alabama Crimson Tide are the new #1 team in the country, but the Irish did receive some first place votes in both polls. The Ohio State Buckeyes stay put at #3 after playing Rutgers, and Clemson stays in the mix at #4.
These polls are basically meaningless, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t fun. Look at the top 25’s and tell me this isn’t a wild year.
At 6-0 and 7-0 overall, Notre Dame has a very clear path to Charlotte for the ACC Championship game — which they will likely play Clemson again.
Next up for the Irish is a road trip to Chesnut Hill to take on the Boston College Eagles and former Irish backup quarterback, Phil Jurkovec. The game will be on ABC at 3:30 on Saturday.
