“It’s Clemson Week, Baby.” —Daelin Hayes —Matt Greene
Well, people, we are here. As of right now, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will take on the Clemson Tigers on Saturday night. For the first time since 2005, a #1 team comes into Notre Dame Stadium. The #4 Irish are ready to pounce on the Tigers, and we hope to see a more competitive game than the 2018 CFP Semifinal the last time these two teams met. The hype is and will be palpable.
Some of the hype has changed this year. The Covid-19 pandemic is still a thing, and it has affected this game in a big way. Trevor Lawrence tested positive for Covid last week. He will even travel with the team, but he will not have passed the cardiac test in enough time to play. It is truly a wild thing. Because of that, the lines for this game have moved a bit. Let’s take a look at what we are dealing with here.
ND vs. Clemson Betting Lines
The Irish were around 10.5-point underdogs last week. After Trevor Lawrence was officially ruled out for the game, the spread dropped to Clemson -5.5. It’s really interesting how that happened. Regardless, the Irish are home underdogs. They are underdogs for the first time this regular season (and most likely the only time).

As you can see, there is slightly more money being put on Clemson to cover. However, with -110 being pretty even/normal odds on picks, there isn’t much of a gap in the amount of people betting on the Irish to cover. Also, too, +180 is a pretty decent for the Irish to win outright on the moneyline. I think the combination of Lawrence out plus the Irish having an objectively good defense is making this closer.

The total for the game sits at 51.5. This is truly close - even Oddsshark has this an average of a 1-point win for Clemson. The trend, too, is that this game will go OVER the total. Even though both teams have great defenses, the offenses can click as well.
Matty G’s Prediction
This really is such an interesting game to pick. Even with all of the uncertainty, I’m going with my guys here. I think the Irish do cover the spread, and this game will be insanely competitive. I look at the way the Irish have played, and the home game does help. Additionally, I can see something like a 28-24 or a 31-28 game here, so I could see the OVER hitting on this game.
And, we do it every week, I’m going to set the DAMHSA BUA total at 3.5. Let me know in the poll below and then in the comments about your thoughts on the betting lines. Vote for the Irish TD count in the poll, plus tell us about your thoughts on the spread and the O/U. I can’t really fathom exactly what will happen, but that makes it very exciting.
