It was the Irish who set the tone in the first period of play. The visitors outshot the Wolverines 7-4, but the two squads headed into the second with a scoreless standing.
Despite two Michigan penalties, the Irish did not capitalize on the power play opportunities and the game remained at a 0-0 tie.
Notre Dame’s Spencer Stastney snatched the first goal of the game as the third period neared its end and Alex Steeves scored an empty netter not even a minute later. Michigan’s Jacob Truscott put the Wolverines on the board less than a minute after that, but the Irish had locked it in.
