The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are back in action this week as they travel to Chapel Hill to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in a top 25 matchup. Both the Irish and North Carolina had a BYE last week, so the “short week” Friday game thing shouldn’t have any impact at all.
On Monday, Notre Dame released their depth chart for the game — and it has some significant changes.

Obviously the big news here stems from two massive losses along the offensive line. Zeke Correll will take over for Jarrett Patterson at center now that Patterson will be out for the year with what’s reported to be a Lisfranc injury. Right next to him at right guard will be Josh Lugg as he takes over for Tommy Kraemer who had an appendectomy on Friday night. Outside of the line changes (which will likely be how this line looks for the remainder of the season) the offense stays the same.

There are subtle, but big changes on the defensive side of the football. Freshman cornerback Clarance Lewis had been listed as an “OR” on the depth chart alongside TaRiq Bracy. The “OR” is no longer there, and Lewis has essentially took over as the starting field cornerback. Freshman Rylie Mills is back on the depth chart this week at defensive tackle with Jayson Ademilola out with an injury. Remind me again about Brian Kelly NOT playing freshman....

No changes on special teams this week. Despite the “OR” next to Matt Salerno’s name at punt returner with Lawrence Keys III — Matt’s the sure starter (as he’s been over the past few weeks).
