Mike Brey and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball team must have wanted in on the action the football team has been having this week — because they worked for some great news as well. Blake Wesley, a 6’4” 170 pound shooting guard from South Bend (Riley High School) gave his commitment to the Irish on Friday.

Wesley is the 113th ranked player in the country according to 247’s 2021 player rankings. Blake chose the Irish over the Creighton Blue Jays, Cincinnati Bearcats, Butler Bulldogs, Indiana Hoosiers, Purdue Boilermakers and others. He is the 2nd commitment for Brey in the 2021 class, joining J.R. Konleczny — who is also from South Bend (St. Joseph High School).

Multi-positional on perimeter with size, length, lot of potential defensive value, & willingness to play the right way.

Rare defensive clip here but at 6’4, notice Wesley’s ability to defend the length of the floor, willingness to get low in his stance, lateral quickness to level off drive, then make a play on the ball when teammate was hugged up off ball & not in gap (no foul called either ♂️) pic.twitter.com/yAt20LTEOK

It will feel like a whole lot of new blood in 2021 with Wesley and Konlecszny — as well as the three freshman for this year (Elijah Taylor, Tony Sanders, Matt Zona) and transfer Trey Wertz.
