In the Wake of The News... the magnitude of a big victory

In the glorious aftermath of the victory over those Orange clad team from South Carolina, I’d like to add my perspective. During the football program’s most recent down years, I can remember many people in the media stirring some controversy over the popular topic of ND football’s relevance. Is Notre Dame relevant anymore, they would ask. Are all the best years behind them they railed on further. And is the Notre Dame mystique and tradition gone forever? Well to paraphrase a line from The Godfather, on Saturday night they settled all family business! And looking ahead, they need to exercise the demons that haunted the program since the devastating 1993 loss at home to Boston College.

My answer to the curious media on the question of Notre Dame’s relevance is the same now as it was then. The world is a much better place when Notre Dame is in contention for a national championship. Certainly college football is better when the Irish stay in the Top 5. And much more attention and interest is paid to the Irish and entire college football season due to the amount of fans that either love or hate ND. Upon the conclusion of the Clemson game, the dozens of calls, texts and private messages I received was heartwarming to say the least. It gave me pause to reflect on the ongoing 51 year love affair I have with Notre Dame football. I pondered where and when did it all begin. It took me to the wee hours of Sunday morning to finally settle down to sleep. It was the best night’s sleep I’ve had in about 6-7 years. Upon further reflection of the victory and its personal ramifications I’ve come to the conclusion that the Notre Dame tradition and mystique are alive and well and I’ve never been more proud to be a part of the legion of Subway Alumni from the University of Notre Dame including the last three national championship seasons and that is saying a lot!

Our Lady of Victory, pray for us.☘️
