It has become official now that defensive tackle Jamion Franklin will end his time with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and enter the transfer portal.
2018 3-star DL Jamion Franklin has entered the transfer portal after redshirting as a true freshman and totaling 4 tackles in 2019 with #GoIrish; played in 1 game this fall @rivalsmike @RivalsWoody @Rivals_Singer https://t.co/FSwSqZsozL

Franklin had to redshirt his freshman year in 2018 because of a pretty bad hamstring issue, but started to see action right away in 2019. He never became part of the standard 2-deep, but with the way Mike Elston likes to rotate his players, there were still snaps available.
Several weeks ago, Franklin dropped off of the depth chart and was essentially replaced by freshman Rylie Mills. Franklin only saw action in one game this year.
It’s disappointing in a lot of ways that Franklin has entered the portal. He’s a guy with a possible 3 years of eligibility remaining, and still has enough there to make a difference for some team out there.
There is no word yet on any possible landing spots for the Maryland native.
