Bagpipe Monday: Who’s better than Notre Dame football right now?

The weekly poll and pipes/medieval charm

Welcome to another Bagpipe Monday on OFD! Friends, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish shook off the “low-scoring” bug and blew out the Pittsburgh Panthers on the road. Beating Pitt in itself isn’t really all that impressive, but the manner in which they thoroughly dominated the Panthers is very impressive.

So of course the Irish slip down in the rankings from #3 to #4. Much to my surprise — I’m fine. You absolutely knew the Ohio State Buckeyes only needed to not trip over themselves in their game against Nebraska to have the voters jump them, so Sunday’s polls were merely prophecy.

The AP and Coaches poll absolutely mean jack and shit in the grand scheme of things. This conversation we’re having right now isn’t really about the rankings, it’s about the national perspective and the national narrative when it comes to Notre Dame (which also means jack and shit but also in my wheelhouse and job description).

People had a ridiculously hard time understanding why Notre Dame was ranked #3 and they are still bitching about the Irish at #4. The easy answer was another question “who’s unbeaten and better?”. The full answer is more complicated — but only because it’s much more subjective.

So... who’s better than Notre Dame right now? Which team NOT ranked ahead of the Irish is actually a much better team — and why?

I’ll stay on brand and say NO ONE SO SHUT YOUR MOUTH but you can still voice your own opinion.
