Game Thread: #4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish VS Louisville Cardinals

Brendan McAlinden

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be looking to start off the season with a 4-0 record today when they take on ACC foe, the Louisville Cardinals.

The Irish are a fairly healthy group this week — perhaps more so than at any other time this season when you add injuries and COVID-19 related issues. Considering everything they have had to deal with over the last month and a half — it’s a really good thing for the team and for this game today.

There were plenty of questions about the defense after last week’s performance against FSU, but we didn’t quite understand the scope of the depth chart for that game as much as we did in the days following. The Cardinals provide an excellent challenge with their offensive skill players, so the key today really seems to be how the defense gets back into form — especially in the way in which they tackle.

Notre Dame keeps moving up the rankings as teams above them drop, so a good performance today will help them solidify a place in the top 4 as the Big 10 begins ball next week.
