It seemed ridiculous to just about anyone that follows recruiting, that Notre Dame Fighting Irish commit Michael Mayer was “only” rated as a 4-Star prospect. In the final 247 rankings, Mayer was finally rewarded with his 5th star.

Mayer didn’t just dominate for his high school team in Kentucky, he absolutely blew everyone out of the water at every football camp that he attended. He was arguably the best player at The Opening Finals, and had another tremendous week for the All-American Game.
So, after months of frustration over a lack of disrespect towards Mayer from the recruiting services, he finally gets the due that we expected — and as the #23 player overall.
With Cole Kmet’s exit to the NFL Draft, Mayer has a chance to get some very meaningful playing time for the Irish this fall. The great tradition at Notre Dame as TIGHT END U looks to be in the softest of hands with Mayer.
Fist pumps up.
