Bagpipe Monday: How can Notre Dame put you at ease this week?

Because you look a little edgy.

NCAA Football: Notre Dame at Louisville Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to another Bagpipe Monday on OFD! Friends, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 1-0 and we are finally getting back to a more normal schedule. The Bob Davie(less) New Mexico Lobos are coming to South Bend, and there is a lot riding on this game.

No damn way you say? I get it, I really do. It’s New Mexico and the Irish should just beat the ever living crap out of them — but what if they don’t?

Even after a week of talking ourselves into the Irish showing better than what we thought we saw against Louisville when it happened, the truth is much more complicated and rough. Notre Dame allowed a lot of yards on the ground, and lost Jafar Armstrong for quite some time. If you believe that college football games come down to running the football and stopping the run — where does that put this team?

Look, no matter which we we spin the Louisville win, I think we can all agree that we need to see a lot of improvement on both sides of the ball. Maybe that’s a sharper Ian Book, or maybe that’s a more disciplined game from Khalid Kareem and Julian Okwara. I’m not sure exactly what it is, and maybe it’s all of it, but with a trip to Athens to take on the Georgia Bulldogs next, it just has to get better.

Is there one improvement that you’re looking for in particular? I realize I literally just talked about improvement on both sides of the ball, but is there one thing you are tripping over chairs to see from the Irish on Saturday?
