Some final thoughts as we approach kickoff for Notre Dame vs Louisville

It’s hot outside — the end.

WELL... maybe it’s the heat down here in Louisville that has me hallucinating. But did I really see Paul Finebaum go on TV and say that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish should NEVER be allowed in the college football playoff — like ever?

I suppose it’s a good thing that Finebaum remains a provocateur rather than an actual analyst. That shit was close guys — WHEW!

Seriously though, we had an entire full weekend of college football to consume, and maybe some of the close calls have me slightly uneasy going into this contest against the Louisville Cardinals, or again — maybe it’s the heat. Here’s a random list of thoughts for your pregame feasting:

  • If the the offensive line doesn’t completely own the line of scrimmage, I will be ridiculously disappointed. The line should be improved from last year, but still not on the level of 2017. They simply must get better with their stuff rate from last year which was like 25%.
  • An efficient Ian Book. He doesn’t have to have the same type of night as Jalen Hurts had (now with the Oklahoma Sooners) but being crisp with his passes and his decisions will show that he’s ready for the season. We have talked about the vertical passing game ever since the spring, so now would be a good time for that to get a good look.
  • I think Notre Dame’s linebackers will do just fine tonight. There’s going to be a little bit of some “growing up to do,” but I’m actually confident that they will show quite well. Asmar Bilal, Drew White, and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah will see some breathers from others on the depth chart, but this is the unit Notre Dame is rolling with — light and quick.
  • I don’t know what final score will satisfy Irish fans, and I think my 44-20 prediction may be a little off base. Notre Dame is favored by 20 (or close to) but given the stage that is set tonight, a total blowout would at least curb some of those ridiculous opinions... for a day or so.
