It’s okay you guys... you’re allowed to celebrate this win with some flavor. The 66-14 thumping by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish over the perked ears of the New Mexico Lobos won’t turn many heads nationally, but outside of a terrible game by the Irish — nothing was going to anyways. We could go a little “dark” here with the slow start and hard times running the ball, but the rarity of what we just saw trumps all of the negative issues at hand.
Notre Dame kicked the crap out of a team, and won by 52 points. We just haven’t seen that kind of domination from the Irish over the years — regardless of who the opponent is. It was virtually a stress free game that saw a 31 point 2nd quarter.
Do not try to put too much of what we saw — GOOD OR BAD — in the context of the Georgia Bulldogs. There were just too many good things here to smile big about:
- Kyle Hamilton got his first interception and took it to the house.
- Avery Davis, who was just on defense last week, scored on a 59 yard shovel pass.
- Javon McKinley had two TD receptions — which are the only TD’s in his career.
- Chase Claypool looked dominant (almost got 100 yards) and got himself a TD.
- Chris Finke was really quiet against Louisville, but had a 54 yard TD from a shovel pass.
- C’Bo Flemister scored on a TD run.
- Braden Lenzy caught a 52 yard bomb from Phil Jukovec, and then he caught a 22 yard TD from Brendon Clark.
- Yes, you saw that... Notre Dame used 3 quarterbacks.
- Shawn Crawford got himself an interception.
- EVEN LACROSSE BRO KICKER (Harrison Leonard) GOT SOME PT WITH 2 PAT’S.
The offense was 9 yards short of 600 yards and scored over 60 points. Yes, the running game was a little suspect, and yes there are still some questions on defense (and now we can add Julian Okwara to the “where are you list” after today) but I’m not going to stress too hard about it all right now.
One of the great things about being a fan in this position is that I get to decide the tone for the post game on the site (at least I like to think I do sometimes). Today, I choose happiness for all of those kids that did something great today, and I’m going to slowly settle into the night without a care in the world when it comes to Notre Dame football.
Tomorrow will certainly be a different story, and if you’re in need of a “well this wasn’t that good so let’s break it down a million ways for the pain,” there are multiple outlets that may do that.
Not here. Not tonight. 66-14 and I’m ready for some drinks and more college football. Georgia week will be here soon enough.
