And so begins another round of “This Guy Plays Notre Dame Football” here on OFD. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a roster full of players, and we want to talk about them all. One Foot Down’s player profile series will take a look at every single one of them, and hopefully we all learn a little bit more about these guys, and Notre Dame’s chances for the upcoming 2019 season.
#90 Hunter Spears, Defensive Tackle
The 6’4 295 pound freshman chose the Irish over the Alabama Crimson Tide (so mark that down as a win). Unfortunately for Spears, his high school career was littered with injuries that caused his junior and senior seasons to be cut short. Spears enrolled early at Notre Dame in the winter, but was unable to go full go for spring football because he was still recovering from those injuries. Still, as a 4-Star prospect from the great state of Texas, there is a lot of excitement for his future on the Irish defensive line.
Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, or Chicago
Wanted Dead or Alive
I know Hunter is a big fan of hip-hop, but he can’t deny being a cowboy on the steel horse that he rides (there has been far too few Bon Jovi videos in this series).
Hey Dog HEY!
English Sheepdog
I’m not sure why — but big and fluffy and in need of an examination seems to fit here (so that’s what I’m going with).

2019 Outlook
Now that Spears appears to be fully healthy and practicing with the Irish in fall camp, we can honestly say that he should see some time on the field. For certain he will at least play in four games and retain a year of eligibility, but beyond that is still a bit cloudy to predict. Of course, an injury here or there at defensive tackle and Spears could quickly find himself in the mix and in the rotation.
