The Notre Dame Fighting Irish had their first real practice of the 2019 season on Sunday when they took the field at Culver. While the Irish won’t be in pads for another week, it was still a day that is important to the program because it starts to set the tone for the preseason work.
Head Coach Brian Kelly said:
“The first couple of days is like the first day of school. Everybody is so excited and sometimes the volume gets a little high, so I wanted to keep the veterans pulled back a little bit today. We gave some of the young guys some work. All in all, I was pleased with the purposefulness. I think that’s the word I would kind of underline for today.”
With reports of Kyle Hamilton’s three interceptions (all versus Phil Jurkovec) and a lack of flash from some of the veterans — it all seems to make sense. The Irish are just getting started, but there are some things from Sunday that we should all pay attention to moving forward.
