The Notre Dame Fighting Irish now have a 5-Star running back in its 2020 class. Chester, Virginia blue-chipper Chris Tyree has gained his 5th star once again according to 247 Sports.

While the 247 ranking itself has Tyree as the #1 APB in the country, they also have him as the 63rd ranked recruit — which is hardly close to a 5-Star. The 247 Composite got bumped enough to not only make him a 5-Star, but rank him as the #1 player in Notre Dame’s class (just above 5-Star WR Jordan Johnson).
The bump in the 247 Composite seems a little odd considering both ESPN and Rivals still has Tyree as a 4-Star along with 247. So... where’s the extra juice coming from?
At any rate, it’s nice to see Tyree ranked where most of us think he should be anyways — regardless of algorithms.
Notre Dame is currently ranked #8 in the 247 Composite Team Rankings, and only the Georgia Bulldogs, Texas A&M Aggies, and Clemson Tigers have more 5-Stars committed to them right now. The Irish may only have room for 3 or 4 more commitments in this class (currently 17) so a big rise in the team rankings gets more and more unlikely.
