This Guy Plays Notre Dame Football: #54 John Shannon, Long Snapper

Consistency. That is all.

@DavidBinnaward

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a roster full of players, and we want to talk about them all. One Foot Down’s player profile series will take a look at every single one of them, and hopefully we all learn a little bit more about these guys, and Notre Dame’s chances for the upcoming 2019 season.

#54 John Shannon, Long Snapper

John Shannon is not a big name for the Irish, which is EXACTLY what you want out of your long snapper. John was widely considered one of the top long snapper prospects in the class of 2016, and came to the Irish from Chicago Catholic League powerhouse Loyola Academy (shoutout CCL/my alma matter the Fenwick Friars). He has been a staple in special teams over the last two seasons, without a single botched snap. He also has Notre Dame in his blood, with both his father and grandfather playing for the Irish. Look for him to be the leader of the kicking group this year, hopefully imbuing (what a word!) confidence on whoever ends up winning the kicking job. Also, he had two tackles last year, which was dope. Who doesn’t love a hyped long snapper?

Taylor Swift, Chicago, or Bon Jovi

TSwift, Obviously. Plus the title has Long in it....Like LONG snapper. duh.

Hey Dog, Hey!

These gentle giants are great family dogs and don’t seem to rock the boat too much. That is what you want out of a long snapper.

2019 Outlook

Barring any injuries, John will be the long snapper for every game for the Irish during the 2019 season. He has been consistent and I do not expect anything to change this year. Hopefully his consistency rubs off on the 2019 kicker, and he can act as the glue that holds STs together.

Youtube Hot Fire

Shoutout HS John, who rocked a Cowboy Collar. Beast.
