Moving along with business as usual...

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a roster full of players, and we want to talk about them all. One Foot Down’s player profile series will take a look at every single one of them, and hopefully we all learn a little bit more about these guys, and Notre Dame’s chances for the upcoming 2019 season.

Bo Bauer LB

Bauer hails from Harborcreek, Pennsylvania where he attended Cathedral Prep — a known power in the area. Bo enrolled early in January of 2018, and eventually played in 12 games as a true freshman. Although most of his playing time was with special teams, Bauer did get some limited opportunities at linebacker.

The aspect of Bauer’s game that sets him apart from other linebackers is his size. Nowadays you see smaller, shiftier linebackers. This is not Bo Bauer. He stands at 6’3 and weighs 230 pounds. This makes him somewhat of a linebacker from back in the day.

Bo Bauer has to live up to a big reputation. Pretty simple if you ask me.

Hey Dog HEY!

Think of a big, strong dog that won’t take any crap from anyone.

I think of a bulldog. Bo Bauer is a bulldog of a linebacker.

2019 Outlook

This is very hard to project. The Notre Dame linebacker depth chart is cloudy at best right now. It is up for grabs going in to fall camp. With that being said, I am not sure I like Bauer’s chance to get a starting role. It seems like Clark Lea favors shiftier linebackers that can tackle in space. Bauer seems to be more of a run stopper up the middle.

It will be interesting to see how this shakes out. It is certain that Bo Bauer will play meaningful snaps this year. There will be a lot more rotating fresh bodies in this year with Te’von Coney and Drue Tranquill off to the NFL. Bo Bauer will get his chances but only time will tell if Clark Lea’s defense is a fit for him.
