Conference media days are here and John Simpson of the Clemson Tigers had some very powerful words about the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
More John Simpson on Alabama "I personally feel like Notre Dame was the best team that we played... I think Notre Dame was better than Alabama." Full story here https://t.co/e7vsw2Lip0

As a general rule of life, I don’t care very much for the conference media days. For a wide variety of reasons, I believe most of it can (and should) be thrown in the trash. The media pretends to love them — but that’s basically so they can provide newer stories for their readers. “Newer means, in this regard, as to the dateline.
HOWEVER...
This is good stuff. The thing is though — fans have to look at this with a little bit of skepticism (or a lot, I suppose). Simpson seemed pretty upset that the media was giving Alabama a free pass of sorts as it pertains to their “excuses” for getting the crap beat out of them by Clemson — instead of giving Clemson more praise for such a fantastic beatdown.
So, maybe Simpson said this out of spite — but what if he didn’t? What if, in these two cases, Notre Dame actually gave Clemson a tougher game during the 30-3 loss in the Cotton Bowl than Alabama did in their 44-16 loss in the college football playoff championship game?
WHAT IF IT’S TRUE?
I choose to believe Simpson, who is right now, an honest to god Notre Dame message board hero. I’ll mail him the cape.

And armed with this new information, dozens of sportswriters moved Michigan to #1 in their preseason rankings https://t.co/4oeSyxydiJ

Notre Dame’s better than Bama already. Which raises the obvious question of how generationally invincible will they be once Jon Gruden is hired. https://t.co/RHCshXyNpu
