The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a roster full of players, and we want to talk about them all. One Foot Down’s player profile series will take a look at every single one of them, and hopefully we all learn a little bit more about these guys, and Notre Dame’s chances for the upcoming 2019 season.
#33 Shayne Simon LB
Simon, a a 6’3, 230 pound linebacker from West Orange, New Jersey (St. Peter’s Prep) was a prized recruit that played in the Under Armour All-American bowl as a high school senior. Shayne Simon played in 9 games as a true freshman and recorded 4 tackles. His time came on special teams and mop up duty.
Notre Dame will trot out an inexperienced linebacking core in 2019. Losing the expertise of Drue Tranquill and Te’Von Coney will be hard to replace.
Shane Simon will be called upon to be one of those guys to attempt it. The Irish will use more of a rotation this year, giving way to opportunity for young players. With such a big question mark, it is anyone’s game.

Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, or Chicago
The potential of Shayne Simon makes me excited. You know what else makes me excited? The song “Mean” by Taylor Swift.
Hey Dog Hey
One of the positions Shayne Simon is up for us the rover position. It is a mix between a linebacker and safety. You want to see a mixed dog?

2019 Outlook
Shayne Simon will get a hard look at the rover position. I have no clue who will win this position battle. It will more likely than not be played out into the season. No better way to see what a player has than throw him into the fire in game action.
I think Shayne Simon is the most talented of the young linebackers. Notre Dame will be at their best if Simon’s potential comes through and he can play a significant role on the defense.
Only time will tell.
