The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are having a recruiting weekend as hot as the surface of the sun. On Father’s Day, 2020 4-Star OL Michael Carmody gave his commitment to play football in South Bend.

Michael is the brother of Irish basketball’s Robby Carmody, but where as Robby was built for hoops — Michael is certainly built for the gridiron. At 6’6” and 285 pounds, Michael is an athletic player that was once a tight end and also a good basketball player. From 247 Sports:

Great frame with wide shoulders and arm length. Easily can carry 300 pounds. Excels on basketball court as well. Athletic with quick feet. Fires off quickly at snap. Gets to the second level easily. Physical at point of attack. Patient in pass pro. Does not lunge. Once engaged, controls defender well. Has good body control. Accurate with hand placement. Needs to continue to develop upper body strength. Must be more consistent in sinking his hips. Multi-year starter at high-level program. Likely projects as a second- or third-round NFL draft pick.

Michael chose the Irish over a long list of offers from national programs that included the Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas A&M Aggies, Michigan Wolverines, Virginia Tech Hokies, and many more. He is the 13th commitment for the 2020 class, and the second offensive tackle. He also adds to the impressive list of different states represented in this class with 12 states (that includes Washington D.C. and Germany).

This has been a bit of a whirlwind recruitment as he just picked up an offer from Notre Dame and Jeff Quinn back in the beginning of May. Regardless, he has been on Notre Dame’s radar for a long time here, and they dis a great job in adding him to the 2020 class.
