Notre Dame Football Recruiting: 4-Star Defensive End, Rylie Mills Commits To The Irish

THE DESK DESTROYER!

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish added even more top talent to its depth at defensive end today when 4-Star Rylie Mills gave his commitment to Brian Kelly and the Irish. The 6’5” 275 pounder from Lake Forest Illinois chose the Irish over a long list of offers across the country including the Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines, Alabama Crimson Tide, Wisconsin Badgers, and more.

The 2020 prospect looks like tremendous prospect, and he might be the highest rated DESK DESTROYER in the nation.

This is his 247 Evaluation:

Has always had a big frame but has worked in the weight room to fill out a bit. Will begin college ready to compete at a high-level. Thick across the upper body but also has length. Plays with great motor. Strong and has heavy hands. Gets off the ball well and makes a lot of plays in the backfield. Has some twitch and closes and runs plays down well for a bigger lineman. Taller prospect who will need to continue to work on bend and ability to play low as well as technique. Right now he wins a lot with get-off and strength, but more technicality will play into his physical gifts. Classic five-tech but may able to play some tackle as well. His high school did play him over the nose in some situations. Power 5 starter with early round NFL draft potential.

The Irish are deep at defensive end in 2019 and look to remain so in 2020. Notre Dame has three commitments in this class to help recover from the losses of Julian Okwara, Khalid Kareem, and Daelin Hayes.

This is the 9th overall commitment in the 2020 class for the Irish. While I still maintain a 20-22 man class as a maximum — there is plenty of talent still left on the board for the Irish. Some of that talent is rumored to be making their pledges to the Irish public this month.

At any rate, the Irish are doing exactly what they need to do as they get closer to Summer. We’ve seen this pattern emerge for Notre Dame since the start of the early signing period era, and for the most part, it’s had great success in South Bend.
