Once again, time for another addition of “This Guy Plays Notre Dame Football”. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a roster full of players, and we want to talk about them all. One Foot Down’s player profile series will take a look at every single one of them, and hopefully we all learn a little bit more about these guys, and Notre Dame’s chances for the upcoming 2019 season.
#18 Joe Wilkins, Wide Receiver
Wilkins was a solid two-way player (receiver and defensive back) during his prep career in Florida. He came out of high school ranked as high as the No. 12 player in Florida, according to 247 Sports. As a senior during the 2017 season, and six touchdowns. His team finished the regular season undefeated, but made an early exit in the state playoffs.
Wilkins came to Notre Dame in 2018. During his freshman campaign Wilkins saw time in just two games. He looked decent in this past spring game for the very limited time that he was in.
While the coaching staff seems fairly impressed with how Wilkins has handled himself since he came to campus, there simply isn’t very much tape of him out there at the moment to say a lot about Wilkins as a college player.
Taylor Swift, Chicago, Bon Jovi
Let’s go with this one since Wilkins is still searching for his definitive moment as a member of this team.
Hey Dog Hey
Wilkins is from the Fort Myers area, which I have something of a history with. Folks from my mom’s side seem to always have some stories about the Fort Myers Greyhound track. So let’s go with the classic Greyhound.
In a perfect world, everybody gets a decent amount of touches and everybody shares the spotlight...But a perfect world this is not. Notre Dame is fortunate enough to be very deep at wide receiver. Wilkins has some decent size, but so do four or five other guys on Notre Dame’s depth chart. Can Wilkins get his first career catch this season? Absolutely. Is he going to be filling out the stat sheet on a consistent basis? I wouldn’t put money on it.

Today we’ll leave off with a clip of one Wilkins’ better catches from his prep career at North Fort Myers High School.
