The Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball team closed out their regular season this weekend with a series against the Boston College Eagles. The Irish lost the first two games of the series before winning the third to avoid the sweep. Notre Dame now turns its attention to the ACC Baseball Tournament where they will open up against the Duke Blue Devils.

Game 1: Notre Dame 1 (23-27, 12-16) - Boston College 10 (28-25, 11-17)

Boston College scored in the first inning of game 1 when a Cameron Junker throwing error allowed two runs to come home. They then put together a string of hits in the second inning to score three more runs for a 5-0 lead.

Notre Dame brought one run across in the sixth inning when Jake Singer doubled to score Jared Miller. Boston College was able to put the game away after that though, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the sixth and two more in the eighth for the 10-1 win.

W: Dan Metzdorf, BC (7-2)

L: Cameron Junker, ND (3-4)

Game 2: Notre Dame 8 (23-28, 12-17) - Boston College 9 (29-25, 12-17)

Notre Dame got things started in the second inning of game two. Jared Miller drove in the first of two runs with an RBI single. He later came around to score when Jack Zyska was caught in a rundown on the bases behind him.

Boston College answered almost immediately in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs on a series of base hits. Notre Dame took the lead back in the top of the fourth though. After one run scored on a wild pitch, Jack Zyska singled to score two more for the 5-4 advantage.

The Eagles tied the game in the bottom half of the fourth before Notre Dame took the lead again in the fifth when David LaManna scored on a fielder’s choice. The Irish added another run in the seventh, but Boston College came right back in the bottom of the seventh and scored four runs for a 9-7 lead. Notre Dame added one more run on a wild pitch in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.

W: Joey Walsh, BC (4-6)

L: Joe Boyle, ND (3-3)

Game 3: Notre Dame 11 (24-28, 13-17) - Boston College 5 (29-26, 12-18)

Notre Dame got going again early, scoring two runs in the first inning on a home run from Niko Kavadas. They added another run in the second and two more in the third.

Boston College got a run back in the bottom of the third, but Notre Dame kept piling on the next inning. Niko Kavadas picked up his third RBI of the game with a single before he came around to score on a home run from Daniel Jung.

Notre Dame added a run each in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Boston College managed to bring four runs across in the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the Irish.

W: Cameron Brown, ND (4-6)

L: Joe Mancini, BC (3-6)
