Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Could be a HUGE week for the Irish as top prospects are ready to commit

The recruiting effort for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish has been in overdrive over the last few months, and now we could see a whole lot of fruit from that labor. This upcoming week is going to be very important for the Irish — and it could be HUGE.

TOP RUNNING BACK READY TO COMMIT

The top running back on Notre Dame’s board is the #1 APB in the country according to just about everyone. Chris Tyree is a highly coveted speedster from Chester, Virginia and has narrowed his top list down to the Oklahoma Sooners, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Notre Dame. Tyree will announce on Thursday May 23rd at 3:00 PM EST.

TOP DEFENSIVE END READY TO COMMIT

The top strong-side defensive end on Notre Dame’s board is Braiden McGregor from Port Huron, Michigan. McGregor recently visited the Florida Gators, but most recruiting experts believe this is a battle between the Michigan Wolverines and Notre Dame. McGregor will be announcing his commitment on Friday May 24th at 7:00 PM EST.

CAN THE IRISH LAND BOTH TYREE AND McGREGOR?

In short... yes. With Chris Tyree there is a high level of confidence that the electric running back will pick the Irish on Thursday. Notre Dame is the overwhelming favorite on the 247 Crystal Ball, and most signs indicate Chris will be in South Bend in 2020. His official visit in June is still in the books as well, so you can take that for what it’s worth.

McGregor, however, brings about a strong level of hope as opposed to confidence. The 247 Crystal Ball has Michigan as the overwhelming favorite, but it seemingly appears much closer than that, and the Irish have done a good job in selling Notre Dame to McGregor.

So, the Irish could land both but it’s much more likely that Chris Tyree announces for Notre Dame on Thursday, and Braiden McGregor announces for Michigan on Friday. Personally I think the Irish will get both, but I offer you nothing more than a gut feeling.

IS THERE MORE TO MAY?

For weeks, recruiting sites have been saying May will be a huge month for Notre Dame — and so far it already has been with commitments from Rylie Mills and Tosh Baker. Just one of either McGregor or Tyree would make this month “off the charts,” but if they land both... HOLY SMOKES!

Notre Dame is ridiculously hot right now on the trail, and if they do add both Tyree and McGregor, it would vault Notre Dame into the 4th position in 247’s Team Rankings. There is also a buzz about WR Xavier Watts, OT Michael Carmody, and OC ReeceAtteberry — although there’s nothing (that I know of) to suggest an imminent commitment from any of those three at this time.

Adding 3 or 4 of the best players on the board is certainly worthy of a “great May,” so be prepared for some fist pumps this week.
