Bagpipe Monday: Blue And Gold week flaunts its true colors for Notre Dame

Some might say this is more exciting than Navy week.

Welcome to another Bagpipe Monday here at One Foot Down! Friends, it’s game week as the annual Blue-Gold spring game for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish goes down on Saturday inside Notre Dame Stadium.

Bagpipe Monday Notre Dame @phillykelly

This year we’ve been blessed with unprecedented media coverage of spring ball during the Brian Kelly era. Because of that, there probably won’t be a lot of surprises on Saturday (although a Julian Okwara & Daelin Hayes offensive backfield would be dope). Hopefully, this game will merely serve as reassurance that the team is coming together — not a finished product by any means, but something nice to work with this fall.

We will have a lot more this week on the upcoming spring game, but I thought I’d share a little something that would have been a lot more fun if the women’s national championship game wasn’t being played.

It started with a change that was long over due from the Pittsburgh Panthers. They are going full retro, full-time — and I love it.

It’s a great move by Pitt because of two things:

  1. They’re just infinitely better looking than what they have been trying to pull off for the last 20 years or whatever.
  2. It’s one less team wearing the blue and gold — navy blue and gold that is.

I was moved enough to tweet out this fun little, well... tweet:

The very sensitive fans of the Navy Midshipmen were outraged. All of this was going on during the national championship game, so I let them have their fun (mostly) as they lost their collective mind (poor Matt Greene was dealing with this as he was tweeting the game from the account).

THE COLOR IS CALLED NAVY HOW DARE YOU TAKE OWNERSHIP! LEARN YOUR HISTORY! WE SAVED YOUR ASS!

And blah blah blah. They were spouting off their perceived birthright that is Notre Dame on the Navy football schedule — and I never even told them long-standing belief that this game should be cancelled forever yesterday.

I mean oh my god... what about the gold?! Why in the shit should Navy be allowed gold then? It’s the “brass” not the “gold.” And what in the hell is gold doing on the fleet anyways? Those are YOUR tax dollars and they go with gold. Wasteful spending.

Recognize the fun and enjoy the pipes. Go Army:
