Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Nation’s Top Long Snapper, Alex Peitsch Commits To The Irish

Staying consistent

Alex Peitsch, a 5-Star long snapper and the number one player at his position according to Kohls, committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Wednesday afternoon. Peitsch chose the Irish over schools like the Michigan State Spartans, Tennessee Volunteers, and others — but Notre Dame was the only school to offer Peitsch a scholarship.

Notre Dame has long lived under the philosophy of recruiting scholarship caliber long-snappers, and John Shannon is currently occupying a slot right now. Shannon is eligible for a 5th year in 2020, but it’s highly unlikely Notre Dame will carry two long snappers under scholarship with the usual numbers crunch.

From Kohls:

Peitsch has put himself in a league of his own and is truly one of the most impressive snappers we have ever seen. He snaps a consistent ball that is unmatched by anyone else in the country. Peitsch recently competed against the best 2020 snappers at our Underclassman Challenge and was unbeaten. Through all of the Kohl’s National Ranking Camps, Peitsch has finished with the top overall charting score for all ages. He has a great frame and has shown the ability to cover down field. Peitsch is one of the best high school snappers Kohl’s has ever seen and will be a day one starter for any program in America.

Peitsch is the 8th commitment in the 2020 class. None of the eight players are from the same state, with the two Alexanders not being from any state of the union in Washington D.C and Germany (the country in Europe that knows how to do October right).

I continue to believe that Notre Dame will take about 20 or 21 commitments in the 2020 class. The updated scholarship chart will continue to show John Shannon (as well as others that some firmly believe won’t be in South Bend in 2020) until there is official word from Notre Dame.
