The Notre Dame Fighting Irish came out swinging in the ACC Tournament today as it faced the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. During the first few minutes of the first half, it seemed like it was going to be a typical Notre Dame vs Georgia tech game... sloppy and low scoring.
That wasn’t the case for the Irish.
Notre Dame went on to shoot over 58% from the field and went 7-11 behind the 3 point line. Notre Dame got a HUGE lift from freshman Nate Laszewski with 14 points before he went down hard after a flagrant foul. Dane Goodwin added 9 more points as the Irish built up a 20 point lead before the half. The teams went into the locker room with a score of 52-32.
The second half was a completely different story as Georgia Tech’s Moses Wright took over with his 25 points. Notre Dame struggled against the man to man defense and often times took a poor shot. John Mooney really carried the team in the second half as he scored 20 points in the game and pulled down 10 rebounds. Tech rallied to within 3 points with less than 2 minutes in the game, but the Irish held on to win 78-71.
Notre Dame will play the Louisville Cardinals in the second round on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM
WIN AND ADVANCE!
1-0.
