Bagpipe Monday: THE NOTRE DAME POSTSEASON IS IN FULL SWING AND YOU NEED TO BE MORE EXCITED

The OFD Poll and Pipes is mad about March.

Twitter @NDHockey

Welcome to another Bagpipe Monday on One Foot Down. Please don’t let the lateness of the hour trick you into believing I’m not 110% checked in for tournament time. It’s that wonderful time of year where brackets mean everything — as does the motto “win and advance.”

Bagpipe Monday Notre Dame @phillykelly

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish hockey team is really living that life right now. They swept the Spartans in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament, and face Minnesota this weekend. The Irish are currently ranked #15 in PairWise and still might need to win the conference tournament to make it to the NCAA Tournament for a Frozen Four run.

The women’s basketball team is on a different path. They have already won the ACC (regular season and tournament) and are most likely on their way to being a 1 seed in Chicago for the NCAA Tournament. The Baylor Bears and UConn Huskies (among a few others) still loom large, but the women have a fantastic chance at winning BACK 2 BACK National Championships.

The men’s basketball team is also on an entirely different path (like WAY different). There will be no postseason for the Irish except for the ACC Tournament that starts on Tuesday afternoon against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. We don’t need to rehash the Irish season — because it was incredibly awful. We can, however, look to the future and maybe that future starts in Charlotte with a min-run that gives the program some sort of respectable way to end the year.
