Back in fall camp, everyone knew the Notre Dame Fighting Irish had something special in Kyle Hamilton. He made play after play in practice, and he was intercepting passes at a rate that no one on the Notre Dame beat had seen before — from any age. The 6’4” 210 pounder from Atlanta, Georgia was a 5 Star prospect that was playing 5 Star ball.
And then the season started... and he continued to play like one of the best safeties in the country. His stat line while backing up Jalen Elliott and Alohi Gilman:
- 39 tackles
- 1 TFL
- 4 INT
- 6 PBU
His presence on the field was more than his basic stat line showed, and PFF College announced that Hamilton made their Defensive All-American Team.
They had this to say about our sweet baby boy Kyle:
Notre Dame landed the best coverage safety in the entire 2019 recruiting class. Hamilton recorded a near-elite 89.7 coverage grade in his true freshman season, allowing just seven passes to be completed on 22 targets. Those seven went for 74 yards and no touchdowns. However, the Fighting Irish safety stole possession four times by way of interceptions, and he forced another five pass breakups for a passer rating of 3.0 when targeted, best among all defenders in the nation with at least 15 targets.
Best in the nation... like we need any more reasons to hype this elite talent as it is.
Congratulations to Kyle, and I’m sure other accolades will soon follow.
