Even at 10-2, the 2019 college football season for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish has been a little disappointing. While a close loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in a night game in Athens seemed “okay” at the time, the Irish followed that up a month later with a 45-14 pounding by the Michigan Wolverines. The way the Irish lost that game in Ann Arbor is what has all but locked Notre Dame out of a New Years Six game, and basically printed a Camping World Bowl invitation.
For the last month, the Big 12 team opposite Notre Dame in this matchup has basically been the Oklahoma State Cowboys. There was some noise about the Iowa State Cyclones, and the Kansas State Wildcats, but the Cowboys were everyone’s projection — until now.
Now there’s all sorts of “buzz” about the Texas Longhorns meeting the Irish in the Camping World Bowl.
Hearing a lot of Texas-Notre Dame buzz for the Camping World.

The 7-5 Longhorns are unranked and have coming off of an extremely disappointing year where they were definitely not “back” by any reasonable standard.
I don’t need to get into why this game is better than Iowa State, but I did want to mention why I’d be much more interested in this matchup than with Oklahoma State...
REVENGE!
Okay, so it’s not really revenge (or even close) but it’s something. The disaster that was the 2016 that started with a 50-47 loss to Texas still hangs over this program in some way. Notre Dame has gone 32-6 since that season, but there’s a sweet bit of rev— something that goes along with this game. There are seniors and 5th year seniors that played in this game, and maybe winning this game will give them some type of closure on the whole thing.
It’s thin and flimsy and certainly less than a New Years Six game, but if we’re dealing in reality, this is the hand we have in front of us. So sure — bring on Texas — HORNS DOWN!
