Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Oakland Raiders running back, George Atkinson III, has passed away at the age of 27. George and his twin brother Josh Atkinson came to Notre Dame together as part of the 2011 recruiting class.

Josh passed away less than a year ago from a suicide. I haven’t seen any details attached to George’s passing, but there is no doubt that he struggled with the loss of his twin brother. Just a month and a half ago, George penned an open letter to struggling kids that spoke about his loss and heartache.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Atkinson family as they grieve another terrible loss to their family.
