Brian Kelly checked in with Notre Dame Fighting Irish fans Thursday for the latest segment of the Brian Kelly Show. The coach gave some shout outs and looked ahead to the next challenge.
Last Week’s Win
Kelly addressed the especially adaptable Irish defense and how it locked in last week’s victory. It was a challenge to respond to VT’s surprising running game, but as Kelly explained, the guys ”...knew where [Virginia Tech] wanted to go with the football and we made the appropriate adjustments.”
Name Drops
The coach gave Ian Book props for his aggression and improvement in last week’s victory against the Hokies. However, Kelly stressed the need for Book to execute in “a more consistent fashion.” Kelly went on to say the experience of the Virginia Tech game will be “a launching pad for [Book] moving forward.” Kelly also highlighted the performances of tight ends Cole Kmet and Tommy Tremble and said “They give us the opportunity to, you know, jump into some really favorable looks in terms of the running game.”
Battling the Blue Devils
The upcoming game against the Duke Blue Devils will take place in a sold out stadium and against a hungry team. Kelly recognizes this is just the nature of hosting Notre Dame, so he has the team ready for the environment and the treatment. The coach said the team must prepare for the atmosphere and an “outstanding offensive line… We will be challenged.”
