Notre Dame ranked #15 in first College Football Playoff Rankings

A different start for Notre Dame.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: SEP 14 New Mexico at Notre Dame

The first college football playoff rankings have been released, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are ranked in the same spot as the AP and Coaches polls... #15.

There will be some big battles ahead in the Big 10 and SEC with the Ohio State Buckeyes, LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Penn State Nittany Lions ranked as the first four. The Clemson Tigers are the first team out, but winning against their weak schedule will still be enough to slide them into the top 4 when it’s all said and done.

Only one opponent left on Notre Dame’s schedule is ranked in the newest rankings as the Navy Midshipmen start out at #24. Two other previously played opponents inside the top 25 are the Michigan Wolverines at #14 and the Georgia Bulldogs at #6 — both of course were losses for the Irish on the road.

Notre Dame received very favorable initial rankings in 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018. There is virtually no chance for the Irish to get ranked inside the top 4 for the playoff, but winning out with some authority should put the Irish inside the top 10.

This site will only recognize the CFB Playoff rankings moving forward.
