After falling in double overtime last night (although the game technically went down as a tie for both teams), the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Hockey team was back in action Saturday against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. After falling behind 2-0, Notre Dame stormed back to claim the road victory 5-3.
First Period
Minnesota opened the scoring midway through the first, capitalizing on a 2-on-1 chance to take the lead on a goal from Brannon McManus. Minnesota scored again a few minutes later, this time from Jack Perbix, and took the 2-0 lead into the locker room after the first period.
Second Period
Notre Dame cut the deficit in half just five minutes into the second period when Nick Leivermann scored with a shot from the point on the power play for his first goal of the season. Later in the second, Paul Stastney jumped on a rebound in front of the net to tie the game, but Minnesota took the lead back with their third goal of the game just 42 seconds later. Before the end of the period Notre Dame managed to tie things up again when a drop pass from Trevor Janicke found Leivermann in the slot where he fired home his second goal of the game.

Trevor Janicke added an empty net goal late in the game to seal the win for Notre Dame.
