The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will finish up the regular season against the 4-7 Stanford Cardinal in Palo Alto with a 4 PM (EST) game on Fox. The Irish are a 9-2 team that just can’t get any respect from the voters at the moment and are likely headed to the Camping World Bowl no matter what.
So, on the surface there is nothing here that screams THIS IS A BIG GAME. However... this is kind of a big game.
Notre Dame is just 3-7 in its last 10 meetings against Stanford and the Irish haven’t won in Palo Alto since that disastrous 3-9 campaign in 2007. If you’re a 5th year senior on this Notre Dame team, you only have one win during your time at Notre Dame and have been a part of 4 brutal losses. That’s reason enough to get up for this game, and with that sweet looking Legends Trophy up for grabs — it must be done.
Notre Dame is also trying to win its 10th game of the regular season, with an eye on 11 for the bowl game. For as disappointing as some things have been this year, if the Irish do get that 11th win, they will certainly finish inside the Top 10. That ranking could really help position themselves for 2020 and another big run with a ton of guys coming back.
It’s a big game.
