An empty netter ended it all.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish headed to Madison to take on the University of Wisconsin Badgers, who stopped Notre Dame’s eight game winning streak in its tracks.

First Period

Matt Hellickson headed to the penalty box for cross-checking and Badger forward Cole Caulfield got his team on the board with a power play goal. The Badgers wasted no time in shaking up the otherwise elite Irish penalty kill, and kept it all going into the second period.

Second Period

Wisconsin’s Roman Ahcan brought it to 2-0 on the power play after Notre Dame’s Spencer Stastney took a hooking penalty. The Irish got fired up in the second period and passed Wisconsin’s 7 shots on goal with 9.

Third Period

The Irish responded to two frustrating periods by pulling Cale Morris from between the pipes, but Wisconsin’s Linus Weissbach sealed the deal for the Badgers with an empty netter.
