Bagpipe Monday: Should Notre Dame stop scheduling Navy?

Absolutely, but the poll and pipes works for you. HAPPY VETERAN’S DAY!

Welcome to another Bagpipe Monday on One Foot Down! Friends, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 7-2 and ranked #16 in the country. With three games left, Notre Dame needs quite a bit of help to put themselves in position to be selected for the Cotton Bowl. First up on the schedule are the #21 Navy Midshipmen and their family-friendly triple option offense.

You already know my stance/views about Notre Dame scheduling Navy. Today’s exercise is to try and get a more accurate count of how the readers feel about the series. A few things before the comment section blows up:

  • I really do enjoy watching Navy — as well as the Army Black Knights and Air Force Falcons. If Notre Dame stopped playing football tomorrow, one of those three schools would have a pretty good shot at my allegiance.
  • I know the history so please save your history lesson. Actually, most people’s “history” of why this game is schedule lacks proper context and intent. So... I probably know the history better than you because my view isn’t narrowed by just the Notre Dame perspective.
  • I’m genuinely excited for the 2020 matchup. Not because of the Ireland trip (which I am against) but because it will get a fresh broadcast on ESPN as opposed to CBS or NBC. It could go poorly, but I’m optimistic.
  • Notre Dame will never drop the series, so most of this is nonsense talk anyways.

So place your vote in the poll and say whatever you like in the comments. This is America after all — and it’s America because of institutions like the Naval Academy.
