Welcome to another Bagpipe Monday on One Foot Down! Friends, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 4-1 and ranked #9 in the nation as they welcome the USC Trojans to South Bend. It’s a rivalry game folks — and one of the best in the country.

It’s always labeled as the greatest intersectional rivalry in college football, but can you name another intersectional rivalry? Does Navy vs Air Force count? In the greater discussion of rivalry games around the sport, the Iron Bowl and Ohio State VS Michigan generally gets the most nods. There’s always the Red River Shootout and the World’s Largest Cocktail Party too — and the Battle for the Jeweled Shillelagh has fallen back further and further over the years.
But not for me.
For me, the game against Southern Cal is the biggest game of the year for the Irish — regardless of record or another “big time” opponent on the schedule. It’s bigger than the game against the Michigan Wolverines, and that point won’t matter much moving forward with more breaks on the schedule.
So as we are now officially in USC week... is this the most important game on the schedule for you? Vote in this week’s poll, and give a shout in the comments below.

Is the game against USC the biggest game of the year for you as a fan?
Now that we are almost to the year 2020, I like to remember and think about the Pete Carroll years quite a bit. Remember how hollow you felt after each loss. Remember the blowouts and how they gutted your soul — and the Bush Push game that gutted your soul and tossed into into the abyss with the creature known as Lucifer.
Just keep that in mind this week.
